President Biden to Appoint ALI Director Revesz to Lead OIRA

On Friday, September 2, President Biden announced his intention to appoint ALI Director Richard L. Revesz as Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA).

The OIRA is a statutory part of the Office of Management and Budget within the Executive Office of the President. The OIRA is the central authority responsible for reviewing executive branch regulations, approving government information collections, establishing government statistical practices, and coordinating federal privacy policy. The office is headed by the OIRA Administrator, who is appointed by the President and confirmed by the United States Senate.

Revesz is a leading expert in environmental policy and regulation. He is the AnBryce Professor of Law and Dean Emeritus of New York University Law School. He founded and directed for more than a decade the Institute for Policy Integrity, a think tank and advocacy organization that promotes desirable climate change and environmental policies.

“President Biden has made a stellar choice in Ricky to serve as OIRA Trustee,” said ALI President David F. Levi. “In addition to having skilfully led the Institute’s projects from start to finish for almost a decade, he is a brilliant writer and scholar and an expert in regulatory law and policy. We all wish him the best as the Senate confirmation process progresses. »

Revesz was elected to the American Law Institute in 1991 and has served as the Institute’s director since 2014. He will continue to serve as ALI’s director pending confirmation.
