Sarah Vance is the 2022 Devitt Prize recipient

A panel of federal judges has selected Sarah S. Vance of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana as the recipient of the 2022 Edward J. Devitt Distinguished Service to Justice Award.

The award, named for the late Edward J. Devitt, who served as Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota, honors an Article III judge who “has accomplished a distinguished career and made significant contributions to the administration of justice, the promotion of the rule of law and the betterment of society as a whole.

“I am overwhelmed to join the pantheon of judges who have received the Devitt Award,” Vance said in the announcement. “My entire judicial career has been a happy collaboration with my paralegals and staff, and with the many dedicated judges and staff who have worked alongside me in the Eastern District of Louisiana. The Devitt Award is the cornerstone of an already rewarding judicial career.

Elected to the ALI in 1996, Vance has served as an advisor on law reformulation, liability insurance, and serves on the membership advisory group on principles of law and government ethics. She was elected to the ALI Council in 2013.

Vance will receive the award at a ceremony at the United States Supreme Court.
